- 2003 Jan 01

SoftML is pleased to release its eXtensible Programming Script (XPS) Version 3.1p (Public Release Version) for public downloading and trial, as well as the availability of the Product Release Version v3.1 for commercial purchase. This latest release of the powerful and dynamic data integration platform now brings a whole suite of important business technologies together in a consistent, maintainable, and simple manner.

XPS v3.1p, the Public Release Version, incorporates such modern and important technologies as:

  • eXtensible Markup Language (XML) - a worldwide data messaging, storage and communication standard from wired to wireless, and from business to entertainment, gaining increasing popularity among users worldwide,
  • Database (SQL) and Open Data Base Connectivity (ODBC) - access to both of these legacy and contemporary solutions for business data storage and retrieval are now made even easier with extended functions within XPS v3.1p,
  • World Wide Web (WWW) - the basic platform for e-business and many other Internet activities, is realized within XPS v3.1p with embedded servers for Web Server (HTTP), File Server (FTP), Email Exchange (SMTP), and Email Retrieval (POP).
  • Graphics User Interface (GUI) - bringing a user-friendly interface to a larger pool of users to gain access to complex and sophisticated technologies,
  • GSM Short Message Service (SMS) - data integration with mobile communications come true in XPS v3.1 as one of the easiest and most dynamic platform to build your mobile sales, marketing and corporate communications,
  • Multimedia Message Service (MMS) - one of the first in the world to bring MMS programming technologies to the masses in a simple, consistent and dynamic way. With its consistent programming language, the addition of MMS to XPS brings very little learning curve, yet allowing existing XPS applications to instantly gain access to this important upcoming mobile technology that may change the way businesses communicate.

Built as an extensible platform for various data integration tasks, the XPS v3.1p combines all its previous and existing strengths in data connectivity and processing, with the strengths of GSM SMS (Short Message Service) and MMS (Multimedia Message Service). XPS v3.1p features both low level and high-level support functions on SMS and MMS, allowing user to easily implement mobile messaging services for various purposes. All these combined prowess that can deliver your important data wherever you are whenever you want them make XPS v3.1p one of its kind.

For just SMS, these can be event notification, network-down emergency (where sending SMS is probably the only way out to notify on-duty personnel), implement content services such as operator logos, picture messages, and other interesting content services that are limited only by your imagination and business feel. Many useful application ranging from small business to large event organizers to money-earning mobile services can benefit from the integrated mobile and in-house systems. XPS v3.1's SMS support even automatically segments long SMS messages (greater than 160 characters) into multiple segments so that handphones can receive them in a logically connected fashion. Things cannot get easier!

For MMS, the range is even much greater! For a start, the XPS v3.1p already includes within it a full suite of MMS services capable of turning your innocent-looking PC into a MMSC (MultiMedia Service Center). You can provide highly personalized data content to individuals who are subscribed to your MMSC. To make things easier for subscribers to your MMSC, XPS v3.1p comes with it simple functions that allow you to program your application to send out MMS Over-The-Air (OTA) configurations so that your users, be they customers or company staff, can start using your MMSC by just clicking "Accept" button. As easy as that!

More importantly, XPS v3.1p provides an integrated, programmable platform that calls upon embedded Internet servers, such as Web server, Email server, POP server and FTP server, and their corresponding clients, allowing full data interchange and interconnect between various Internet channels. Coupled with ODBC SQL connectivity and windowing GUIs and objects supported by event callbacks, the incorporation of SMS & MMS modules into XPS v3.1p brings the level of data integration to a new level that probably makes XPS v3.1p the only product in the world that has all these integrated functionalities in such a simple and interconnected manner.

What this means is that data can fly seemlessly between databases, web servers, application logic, wireless thin air, and so on back and forth and fully under a consistent program control. Your business logic, sitting above the XPS engine, simply directs the flow by calling functions via the XPS language. This is much like the conductor in an orchestra calling upon various instruments to play through the language of handsigns. The result is a well-orchestrated flow of music to the ears.

In the forth-coming years, MMS traffic and usage is expected by many firms and MNCs in the mobile arena to become increasingly important and occupying larger and larger amounts of total data traffic volume. Business would leap ahead if they are able to make use of latest technologies. MMS may just come in as that enabling technology that provides you rich content media, very long text messages, images and even sound.

But most importantly, new software technologies that are needed by businesses must be linked back to traditional systems in a data-integrated manner to protect past investments, as well as to reduce costs related to data migration, system integration, format interchange, gateways, etc. XPS brings such a vision one step closer to reality.
